Description
As Fira had finished her confrontation with Eupe-Nyota out at the boarder, things in the cave were just lulling by. Pingiriti was mellowing at the mouth of the cave, chewing on his black root and spacing out. Fira had opted to patrol the eastern boarder tonight... Pingiriti had done the western one earlier today, and while he had smelt something strange, he could hardly bring up enough thought to care. He had muttered about it to Fira, but she hadn't really paid attention. Really, ever since her heat had passed she had not time or interest in him what so ever.
Right now though, Pingiriti couldn't really be bothered about that. The black root was doing its job and making him quite uninterested in any kind of emotional connection. It was like he was floating between reality and dream space, and quiet frankly he liked it.
"Pingiriti!!"
The male winced slightly, staring down the cave where Chura was fixing up their nests. Ever since he had gotten used to living here, Chura had been nagging him about everything! She had been trying to convince him to take his son and run off with her... he didn't see why though, Ragnarok need Fira to feed him, and they wouldn't be able to find a way out the desert on their own. Then, even if they made it that far, what were they supposed to do? He doubted Chura could catch enough to feed them all. The both of them could barley catch enough for themselves...
Slowly Chura stopped bugging him over that particular subject and began to settle into life here. It was most likely that she had taken to the babysitting job Fira had put her on and was finally comfortable. She was still skittish around Fira and for good reason, but as long as you didn't screw up too badly, there was nothing to be afraid of. Sure she was a bit... scary, but hey, she had to be tough, living such a place as this.
While this subject had dissipated, there were still other thing Chura bugged him over.
"Pingiriti!! What are you doing?" She called again. She padded up to him and looked him over. "The nests are ready...Wait, whats that?"
Pingiriti blinked and looked down at the roots in his paws. "What this?" He asked, not really sure if he should share this or not. Fira hadn't said anything about telling Chura, then again, why shoudn't he? He was beyond the point of feeling any guilt for taking this.
"Well yes, Ive never seen anything like t-...Wait." Chura blinked. "Where's Ragnarok?"
"Hmm?" Pingiriti mumbled. "What do you mean?"
"I gave him to you. I left him right in your paws!" Chura looked around until she spotted the cub a few feet away from them, wriggling a bit of the cave floor. Chura quickly scrambled over to him and checked him over, he felt a bit chilled from the night air and looked upset.
"Pingiriti! He's freezing! The poor thing!"Chura quickly scooped him up and began to bath him. 'What is wrong with you!?"
"What you want me to do?!" Pingriti snapped, alightly annoyed by his sister's behaviour.
"Watch him! Like you were supposed to!" Chura tucked him into her paws as he began to squirm around, unhappy to be bathed. "Don't you care about him?"
"I guess." The male replied, eating some more root. The drug dulled him to the sense of the cold air and any feelings he may have towards his family. Right now, he didn't care for anything .
Chura looked up to glare at him. "Looks like you care more about that crap than you do your own son!!" She glared at him before a sound caught her ear. She looked out of the cave wearily, standing up and scooting Ragnarok behind her a bit. She peeked out the entreance before she was almost caught in a pair of jaws!
"AHH!" She yelped, flinching back as a rather large hyena growled in at her. 'Oh gods!"
"Looks like we found 'em! This the one Pewa!?" The female asked. A rather scarred up hyena appeared next to her.
"No, but she's always with her!" He responded.
"Alright lion! Wheres the other female!" The large hyena snarled, bearing her teeth. Pewa echoed the movement, glaring at Chura hatefully.
"I- You mean Fira?! She- I- I don't know!" Chura yelped. Ragnarok began to mewl behind her, unsettled by all the commotion.
"Aw, look. They have a baby." The female hyena grumbled angrily. "I had a baby once to, but then a big, fat ,stupid lion KILLED HIM!!"
"I-i!!" Chura whimpered as the creatures advanced, she could hear more outside just behind them.
"Hey, I know." Pewa snapped. "Maybe we should RETURN THE FAVOUR!!"
"No!" Chrua gasped, sitting and gather Ragnarok up under her paws.
They hyenas came farther in the den and Pingiriti, whom had been watching this all unfold, looked mildly surprised and made no move towards them. Suddenly there was a loud yelping noise heard outside. Both hyenas quickly turned and Chura could make out a figure just behind them.
"F-fira!" Chura shouted, relieved.
Pewa snarled and turned completely. "Its her!! She killed Kadogo!!!"
Fira seemed to take in the crowd of vengeful hyenas before her, before she made a dark grin on her muzzle.
"Looks like today is my lucky day."
